Ghana miss out on 2025 AFCON after draw with Angola

Ghana miss out on 2025 AFCON after draw with Angola. The Black Stars’ chances of qualifying were dashed when Angola equalized, despite Jordan Ayew’s outstanding free kick. Ghana’s sad 1-1 draw with Angola on Friday means they will not be able to attend the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Jordan Ayew’s spectacular free kick gave the Black Stars the lead, but Angola, the stronger team, equalized to put an end to Ghana’s hopes of qualifying. After a string of lackluster performances in their previous four games, Ghana needed a massive boost, and Ayew’s brilliantly struck free kick in the 18th minute gave them just that.

With strong defense, Ghana was able to maintain the lead, and Manaf Nurudeen made a vital penalty stop to maintain the score at halftime.

But in the second half, Angola’s superiority paid off when Zini, a replacement who had gone unnoticed in the area, headed in the equalizer to end Ghana’s hopes.

Ghana will miss the AFCON tournament for the first time since 2004 as a result of the draw, which is a major blow to the national squad. Sudan is still a serious contender, requiring only a point in their final match to join Angola, who have already qualified.

If Niger defeats Ghana and Sudan loses, they may also be eligible. The encounter against Niger, which now has little meaning for the Black Stars, will mark the end of Ghana’s disappointing campaign on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
