According to Afenyo-Markin, cool heads would win out on the Supreme Court. Majority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin spoke to media about the controversial parliamentary issue shortly after the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislators.
Underscoring the significance of Ghana’s advancement, Afenyo-Markin stated in a calm manner that he hoped the court’s ruling would open the door for a more thoughtful and cooperative approach between the two major political parties.
He told a Channel One TV reporter, “It’s time to let cooler heads prevail.” “We must take some time to think things through and tie our interactions with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the broader interests of the country.”
In order to promote a consensus that puts the nation ahead of party lines, he underlined his dedication to cooperating with Speaker of the House of Representatives Alban Bagbin. Afenyo-Markin indicated a forward-looking stance by adding, “Speaker Bagbin is currently out of jurisdiction, but once he returns, we’ll sit down, look at the bigger picture, and hopefully reach a mutually beneficial outcome.”
The Speaker’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats empty, which had provoked heated discussion and legal action, was overturned by the court’s decision, which was reached by a 5-2 majority. Attorney General Godfred Dame stated that the Speaker would be required to abide by the court’s final written ruling, which is set to be released on November 13.
With the words, “The Supreme Court’s decision must be respected, and all parties must honor this as we work towards the legislative goals of our country,” Dame underlined that the ruling should stabilize parliamentary procedures. According to Afenyo-Markin, cool heads would win out on the Supreme Court.
